Combination Disc and Drum Brake Lathe RL-8500 by Ranger

The Ranger RL-8500 is a combination brake lathe that resurfaces disc rotors, brake drums and flywheels on one machine. It is the standard model in the Ranger brake lathe line, set up for everyday brake work on common cars and light trucks, and it handles hubless drums, standard rotors and composite rotors.

Separate DC servo motors drive the spindle and the cross feed, so there is no gearbox or transmission to wear out, and both speeds are infinitely variable. The Quick-Change Adapter-Plus system and twin cutter tooling make the switch from drums to rotors quick, while a 204 kg (450 lb) cast iron body on a solid steel bench keeps vibration down for a clean finish cut.

The RL-8500 comes with its bench, storage and a full standard tooling package, ready for the workshop floor. If your work regularly includes deep drums or heavier truck brake components, look at the RL-8500XLT: it shares the same rotor and drum diameter capacities, but adds an extended spindle for drums up to 254 mm (10 inches) deep and extra arbor support at the rear. The RL-8500 is the right fit when that extra depth isn’t needed.
