Super-Duty Combination Disc and Drum Brake Lathe RL-8500XLT by Ranger

The Ranger RL-8500XLT is the heavy-duty version of the RL-8500 combination brake lathe. It resurfaces disc rotors, brake drums and flywheels on one machine, and it is set up for workshops that see deeper drums, heavier brake components and light truck work alongside everyday cars.

What sets the XLT apart is capacity. An extended spindle takes brake drums up to 254 mm (10 inches) deep, with spindle travel of 251 mm (9.88 inches) compared with 175 mm (6.88 inches) on the standard RL-8500. A relocated rear bushing gives the arbor extra support when turning heavier drums, rotors and flywheels, so the lathe can true even heavy drum rotors. Rotor size limits, drum diameter range and arbor load ratings are the same as the RL-8500.

Underneath, it is the same proven platform: separate DC servo motors for spindle and cross feed with infinitely variable speeds, the Quick-Change Adapter-Plus system, twin cutter tooling, and a 204 kg (450 lb) cast iron body on a solid bench to keep vibration down. It comes with its bench, storage and a complete standard tooling package.
